Wow, what a view from Sun Mountain Lodge. This photograph was taken in Wa (Washington State), in the beautiful Methow Valley. The Methow is a small jewel of an area not too far from Seattle in the Pacific Northwest. Okanogan County is such a great place to live for all of the sunshine and outdoors recreation.
I started with a digital photograph and used a HDR process to tone map the light. Then I applied a finishing oil paint layer to add texture to the overall image. I did some tonal work to even out the colors and make them realistic to what I was seeing in nature but not excessively.
I am interested in photography as an "unusual" or "unique" image making process. In other words I enjoy starting with a photograph of an ordinary scene or subject and then I try to make it my own by adding unusual processing techniques. I hope you enjoy viewing my work as much as i enjoy creating it.

"This is one of the finest places to view birds of prey in the South Fork Snoqualmie Valley. Hawks, falcons, kites, and occasionally eagles soar on the thermals that spin up off the sun-heated rocks on the face of Mount Gardner. You can also look across the valley to the high meadows and rocky top of Granite Mountain to see even more birds, circling ever higher on the rising air currents. But even if the birds don't come out to play, you'll enjoy your day on this seldom-visited mountain. Grand views and plenty of solitude await you here.

Start up the road on your right, climbing toward the Carter Creek drainage before sweeping back to the west in a looping switchback turn about 0.5 mile out. In another 0.5 mile you'll enter a broad, open slope. This talus field is a massive slide of broken rock. Look for soaring raptors overhead. Look, too, for the raptors' prey underfoot--ground squirrels and marmots scurry in these steeply sloped rock gardens.

At 1.5 miles the trail splits again. Here, endless views can be enjoyed. Peer north to Bandera Mountain, Granite Mountain, and west down the long sweep of the South Fork Snoqualmie River. Turn around here for a casual 3-mile day. Or press on, climbing another mile along the road as it angles back to the west before running straight south along the upper flank of the Harris Creek valley to a viewpoint at 3800 feet, just below the summit of Mount Gardner.
